Four people from Tishegu in the Tamale Metropolis have been sentenced to 9 years imprisonment for inflicting cutlass wounds on people in the community following a chieftaincy conflict that resulted in the death of a 70-year-old Yakubu Amadu in 2012.
This was after they pleaded not guilty to charges of causing unlawful harm during their trial at a Tamale High Court presided over by Justice Senyo Amedahe.
The court ignored his plea for mercy and leniency and therefore sentenced them. Nachin-Naa Yussif Mohammed 30 years who is a youth chief and masterminded the attack is to serve a three year prison term whilst Abdul Rauf Ibrahim 29 years, Seidu Mohammed 18 years and Abubakari Ibrahim 25 years all accomplices will serve two years each for their roles in the disturbances.
Speaking to Citi News, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said the accused persons were among some irate people who invade the Tishigu community and inflicted cutlass wounds on people following a chieftaincy violence that erupted in the area in 2012 that resulted in the death of one person and properties running into several cedis destroyed.
He explained that the three accomplices were also the prime suspects in the case involving the murder of the 70-year-old man which was still being pursued in court.
It will be recalled on June 9, there were clashes between two rival gates over the enskinment of a chief at Tishegu, a suburb of Tamale, leading to the killing of a 70-year Yakubu Amadu.
The skirmishes would have escalated into a full blown conflict, but for the swift intervention of the security agencies.
