The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has supported calls for the Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong to recuse herself from the Woyome GH¢ 51 million judgment debt appeal.

[contextly_sidebar id=”GhlFomCjiPRqOoj5O2KsywWwOZkbD0uk”]The Attorney General has come under intense pressure from Alfred Woyome and Martin Amidu to stay away from the case citing a conflict of interest situation.

The AG has rejected the claims and complicity in the matter and insisted she will not resign nor recuse herself.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News the Executive Director of the anti-graft group, Vitus Azeem said though it will be far fetched for her to resign, it is in the best interest of the country for the AG to stay away from the case.

“It’s difficult especially when you were defending the person in this area and all of a sudden you are now doing the opposite side… So I think she should not be involved personally in the case,” he said.

“Whether that is enough, whether they have established enough base to call on her to resign or not I am not too sure of that. The person involved in the case has made allegations that she would not handle the case in a fair way so you have to look into that allegation to see whether there is a basis or not and if there is some basis then you will probably take what they are saying,” he added.
