Private Legal Practitioner, Tony Lithur has challenged former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu to drag him to the General Legal Council if he has any adverse findings against him.

Mr Woyome was concerned that since the current Attorney General(AG), Marieta Brew Oppong worked for Austro-Invest and thus benefited from the GHC51 million cedis judgment debt, she will be in a conflict of interest position in the appeal case.

However a press statement issued by the former Minister of Justice, reiterated that the AG and Tony Lithur who were lawyers for Austro Invest indeed benefited from the GHC51 million cedis.

Martin Amidu in the statement, chronicled efforts he made to finally establish that Austro-Invest did not even exist as a company, yet managed to work with Mr Woyome to collect the said amount from government.

According to Amidu, a thorough search in both the United Kingdom and Switzerland confirmed that Austro-Invest with one Ray Smith as sole shareholder and principal director, was liquidated on 26th July 2011.

Describing them as joint beneficiaries with Woyome, Amidu said no prosecution in the “scam” involving the over GH₵51million will succeed by targeting Woyome alone without Waterville, Austro-Invest and others.

Tony Lithur in a sharp rebuttal to Amidu’s allegations however said: “Martin Amidu as a senior practitioner knows what to do if he has definite information of unethical conduct.Of the nature that he has accused me of, if he has any facts to support them,he should take them to the correct forum and he will receive an appropriate response.

“The doors of the general legal council are wide open to him should he wish to take opportunity of that forum.”

He believes Amidu’s decision to “damage a fellow practitioner’s reputation, publicly, based on conjecture is much more unethical and quite irresponsible.”

Mr Lithur,  a former partner of the AG, in the law firm, Lithur, Brew and Co clarified that his outfit did not “advise Woyome either directly or through Austro-Invest in relation to the claim from the government.”

“We were not aware Austro Invest had given Woyome power of attorney to claim monies from government and were not part and did not advise Austro Invest or Woyome on any of the processes leading to the payment of monies to Woyome.

“Lithur Brew and co did not advise Woyome either directly or through Austro Invest in relation to the claim from government. The attempt to link Lithur Brew and co to the claim for compensation is therefore groundless,” Lithur further clarified.
