The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Raymond Tandoh, has revealed that the outgoing Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong and his deputy, Joseph Yamin, joined the “thank you Mahama” march which was held in Kumasi on Tuesday.
The march staged by the Organized Youth of Ashanti, a group affiliated to the NDC, was to thank President Mahama for initiating a number of development projects in the region and also to ask for more.
According to the group, the march was also to get one million votes for President Mahama from the region in the 2016 election.
Hundreds of NDC members clad in red marched through some principal streets of Kumasi holding placards with inscriptions “Thank you Mahama,” “Prez thank you for the community day SHS,” among others.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Raymond Tandoh said though the NDC party did not organize the march, he said “we were in full support of it so we joined them together with the outgoing minister, the deputy, Joseph Yamin and a host of others.”
“We were expecting about 500 to 1000 people but they came beyond our estimation. We have achieved a lot. We have thanked the president for his numerous projects he has initiated in the Ashanti region and we are asking for more.”
Raymond Tandoh further highlighted some of the projects initiated by President Mahama in the region which warranted the march to include the Sofoline interchange which he said is about 90% complete, the renovation of the Kumasi Airport, the rehabilitation of the Kumasi Airport and the revamp of the jute factory which he says employs about 800 people.
He noted that they subsequently issued a communiqué after the march, which highlighted other projects they want done in the region.
