The Christian Council of Ghana says there has been a “continuous decline in the provision of quality education and moral formation among students since government took over the management of mission schools in the country.”
A press statement signed by the General Secretary of the Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, noted that the “inability of the state to manage the schools effectively to fulfil the purpose of the church is worrying.”
“Most of the mission schools are now in bad conditions with very little or no maintenance on them by the Ghana Education Service(GES),”it said.
It also stated that “some of the heads who are posted by the GES to the mission do not believe in the values of the church for which the schools were established, thereby making it difficult for them to impart into the students positively.
“The church has virtually lost control of the schools it founded, and this is what has led to the fast decline in discipline, morality and the deteriorating of educational facilities,” it added.
In that regard, the council called for the development of a comprehensive policy with Public/ Private Partnership that will empower the church to manage its schools with the overarching objective of training the hand, heart and mind.
