Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Marietta Brew Appaih has described as “unfortunate” comments by some high profile individuals that the state will not succeed in its appeal against the acquittal and discharge of Alfred Woyome.
Following the acquittal and discharge of Woyome by an Accra High court and the subsequent declaration by the AG that they will appeal the decision, some personalities such as former CHRAG Boss, Emile Short have shot down the idea, saying it will be an exercise in futility.

However speaking to Citi News, the Attorney General said that such comments should not be countenanced especially when those making it have not averred themselves to the full facts of the case.
She pointed out it was baseless for those individuals to make such comments since they were “not in court , they have not read the record, and were not there when the judgement was read.”
“I am not sure how they came by those conclusions because if you were not in court, you had not read the evidence, you had not read the submissions, why would you make such statements that we are bound to fail on appeal,” the AG fumed.
She remarked that the state would not have prosecuted the case at all if it knew that “there was no merit in it”
The AG expressed optimism that the state’s appeal against Woyomes acquittal will succeed.
