The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is questioning why government officials who played various roles in the payment of the GH¢51 million to businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome have not been prosecuted.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Zng7S1xn9O6jqXhsVytbAlWo2qmhD1TA”]The NPP said evidence available indicates that key public and government  officials were involved in what the party describes as a grand scheme to defraud the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, Communications Director of the party, Nana Akomea questioned why such top public officials that were implicated in the payment of the money to Mr Woyome have not bee taken on by the state.

“We know government and public officials who were involved in this fraud are walking freely, why have they not been prosecuted.”

An Accra court last week discharged and acquitted Mr Woyome who was charged for causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense in the GH¢ 51 million judgment debt saga.

The judge, Justice Ajet-Nasam in his ruling stated that the state did a poor job on the case by failing to call key witnesses.

The Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong  has said her outfit will pursue the case at the Appeals Court while cautioning people from commenting on the appeal.

Meanwhile, former President Jerry John Rawlings has chastised state prosecutors for doing a “shoddy job” with the case.

He said: “The corruption in government keeps worsening. At the Attorney General’s office, individuals who collaborated with Woyome should have been called but they were spared. How can we tackle the canker when all these things are going on. We are not serious,” he said sternly.
