The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has said it has “substantively” resolved all issues with its prepaid card system.
According to the company, experts have been able to set up a data centre for cards reactivation in all four affected districts.
[contextly_sidebar id=”NTb7C2OpqNWXpkTiyoIxyXhRRVrG2P8Y”]On Monday, the Managing Director of the ECG, Ing. Samuel Boakye Appiah told the press that the company has spent the day “mopping up where some faulty cards needed outright replacement.”
“Customers should therefore visit our district offices; Kaneshie, Korle Bu and Achimota to do business with ECG. BOT customers should please note that the faulty cards are reactivated only once,” he reminded.
Last week, the ECG’s Build Operate Transfer vending prepaid system failed, leaving thousands of customers within the Korle Bu, Dansoman, Kaneshie and Achimota areas unable to purchase prepaid credit for power.
This compelled hundreds of customers to mass up at the Head Office of ECG near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, in a bid to have their problems resolved.
The system dysfunction occurred after ECG’s servers were affected by a power outage.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), stepped in to warn the ECG it may face sanctions over the challenged.
Over 41,000 customers affected
Early indications were that, over 41, 000 customers were affected by the challenges.
“Our records indicate that we have identified 41,496 customers who have come in with various complaints to replace cards and reactivate their cards –whethere their cards are corrupted or there are errors on the cards,” Ing. Boakye Appiah stated.
Following the challenges, Ing. Boakye Appiah assured that his outfit would undertake a comprehensive evaluation to prevent future recurrence.
He added that the company will also “review processes and systems and come out with measures that will permanently curtail the occurrence of this event that has caused so much inconvenience to our customers.”
