A leadership institute, the Global Institute for Leadership and Capacity Building has commended President Akufo Addo for not making the Free SHS only a political talk, but a reality.
The institute is therefore calling on Ghanaians to rally behind this grand scheme to get thousands of the youth educated.
President Akufo Addo President Akufo-Addo last week launched the government’s flagship education program, Free Senior High School to mark its take-off across the country.
The Free Senior High School program seeks to increase access to Secondary Education by removing the burden of paying fees from parents.
Under the policy, government would foot all bills including feeding fees, tuition fees, PTA levies, and all other charges.
Over 420,000 eligible students would benefit from the program.
This adds Ghana to countries like Rwanda, Uganda, and Namibia that provide free education at the Secondary level.
Speaking to Citi News the Executive Director of the Global Institute for Leadership and Capacity Building, Selasie W. Addae said though there may be challenges, Ghanaians should be very optimistic and support the program. He explained, ” education is key to development and the future of every nation depends on education so if the policy has met the needs of the poor and vulnerable a lot will change.
Because the program is new there may be challenges but let’s support government to deliver. The free SHS is not for a particular political party is for Ghana.
Selasie W. Addae added, “Education is what will give us the true economic freedom, Ghana’s development thrives on good education.
