The Military High Command will today [Thursday] meet all ranks within the Ghana Armed Forces to brief them on findings from preliminary investigations into the murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama.
According to the Chief of Defense Staff, Lt. General Obed Akwa, the meeting will afford the High Command the opportunity to formally explain circumstances surrounding the death of the late Capt. Mahama and send a message to all troops to remain calm despite the dastardly act against their colleague.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Y80jgGqYgZUwgefuElxTTuDXOQW8vC8w”]Captain Mahama was gruesomely killed by some residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Upper West Denkyira District of the Central Region while on his regular jogging routine in the area.
The deceased, an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion was lynched and burnt by the residents allegedly on suspicion that was an armed robber.
Later reports suggest that the residents committed the crime after identifying Captain Mahama as the leader of a troop deployed there to fight illegal mining; an activity heavily undertaken in the area.
The Chief of Defense Staff, Lt. General Obed Akwa has reassured the bereaved family and Ghanaians that his outfit will ensure that all those found culpable in the heinous act will be prosecuted.
“I’ll be meeting all ranks in Burma Camp for an all-round durbar to reiterate some of the points made by the Vice President. It is our intention to also proceed to Takoradi to meet all ranks of that garrison to convey similar sentiments to them. Nobody involved in this dastardly act will escape justice. That is the assurance I’ll like to give the family,” he said.
Meanwhile, 4 suspects said be directly involved in the lynching of Captain Mahama have been arrested and currently in the custody of the Central Regional Police Command.
An assemblyman said to have instigated the attack has also been arrested and is assisting the police in investigations.
