Gov’t releases feeding grant for SHSs

The government has released an amount of over one hundred million Ghana Cedis for the payment of feeding grants for second cycle institutions.

The amount covers feeding arrears for about two out of the four outstanding terms.

[contextly_sidebar id=”wt47j4BR3Xz5rM3GV6624huq3oVJ1vtY”]According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, the government is processing the claims for the other outstanding arrears for the two terms in question.

The non-payment of the arrears has affected the re-opening of most senior high schools especially in the three regions of the North.

The Reopening of second cycle institutions in the three regions of the north has been indefinitely suspended over the failure of the government to reimburse them for three consecutive terms’.

Continuing students are to stay home until further notice, whereas their counterparts in southern Ghana have resumed their course work.

The heads of the affected schools have vowed never to reopen up until government defrays the accumulated debt.

Release of funds for the payment of scholarship claims

Government has released an amount of one hundred and six million and nintety-seven thousands, six hundred and twenty-eight Ghana cedis, eithy pesewas (GH¢ 106.697,682.80) to the Government has released an amount of one hundred and six million and nintety-seven thousands, six hundred and twenty-eight Ghana cedis, eithy pesewas (GH¢ 106.697,682.80) to the Registrar of Scholarships for payment of feeding grants for second cycle schools.

  1. The amount is in respect of the 3rd term feeding grant for 137,300 students for the 2015-2016 academic year, and also for 140,264 students for the first term of 2016/2017 academic year.
  2. The Ministry is processing the remaining claims for the 2016/2017 academic year.
