A pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group in the Western Region, Anagyi St. Francis Youth Wing, on Monday took to some streets of the Kwesimintsim Constituency in Takoradi, clearing weeds and desilting chocked gutters.

According to the group, this is how they chose to join the commemoration of the President’s 100 days in office, and also to drum home his achievement within this period.

“We believe his 100 days has sent a positive signal that Ghana is on the right path. He has all his ministers and deputy ministers of state in place, he has restored nursing and teacher trainee allowances, he has increased the military’s allowances from $31-$35, payment of NHIS will be coming next week and the free SHS will be coming this September, we believe and are convinced that so far so good”.

“This clean-up exercise is to recognize the feat he has achieved” Chairman of the St. Francis polling station, Sampson Buckman told news men.

Women and children of all ages in the youth wing, with support from the presiding member of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Rt. Hon John Davis, Chairman of the NPP Kwesimintsim Constituency, Mr. Ransford Odame Fening, and some old women of the NPP in the constituency, started their exercise few minutes after 6 in the morning.

They cleared areas overgrown with weeds around the Anagyi Park, desilted gutters along the main Anagyi Effiakuma road, and removed blockade to allow free flow of waste water from nearby homes.

“This exercise is not going to be a 9-day wonder. As youth in the electoral area, we will in the coming days work on other streets, and when that is done, our next move will be to ensure that all street lights in the electoral area are fixed. This is our contribution towards getting Ghana to a better path”, spokesperson for the group, Kafui Yaw Robertson reiterated.

He expressed their belief in the Nana Addo administration to provide jobs “for the teeming youth in the constituency and around the country.”

Chairman of the Kwesimintsim Constituency, Ransford Odame Fening, commended the youth to continue with their initiative and implored others in other constituencies to emulate such moves “for together with the STMA we can make this constituency a cleaner and healthier place worth emulating.”

Zoomlion Ghana Limited and other members of the party provided the youth with gloves, mouth and nose masks and other items that could facilitate their work.
