Four compound houses were on Friday October 7, torched in the Nyanshegu community of the Tamale Metropolitan area, following some rioters’ attempt to lynch alleged witches in the area.
The rioters went on rampage on suspicion that some alleged witches were terrorizing and killing the youth of the community.
The rapid response unit of a combined military and police patrol team, foiled the rioters’ plan to lynch some of the alleged witches.
The Tamale Metropolitan Area Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Wisdom Lovoea, told Citi News two suspects were arrested.
He said the suspects would be detained to assist the police in their investigations.
He said a temporary police post would be established at the flashpoint to guarantee the alarmed residents’ maximum security.
