The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will today [Thursday] sit for the 7th time to choose a Presiding Member following 9 previous unfruitful elections.
The Assembly has been without and Presiding Member for almost a year and efforts to elect one several occasions, have not been successful.

“These are some of the consequences, if we are not able to elect a President Member, that the Assembly will continue to experience but we are hoping that should have a Presiding Member [today].”
He however noted that, “we are now at a crossroads… as it stands now, by the 31st of this month, we are supposed to make sure that our composite budget is approved and also forwarded to the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Finance for the preparation of the national budget.”
Presiding Member hurdle hurting KMA’s image
A former Chief Executive Officer of the KMA, Samuel Sarpong, appealed to assembly members to bury their political and parochial interests and elect a Presiding Member today.
According to him, the constant failure to elect a Presiding Member is impeding development in the metropolis.
Mr. Sarpong also said the violence that had characterized the election of a Presiding Member in recent times is giving the assembly a bad image across the country.
