The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has donated fishing items valued at One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (100,000.00) to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture for distribution to fishermen affected by the September 4, 2016 tidal waves which hit certain parts of coastline fishermen.
Making the donation the Managing Director at ADB, Mr. Daniel Asiedu said the donation was in response to a request by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture on the need to assist the victims.
“The items which we are informed got damaged or lost included outboard motors, fishing nets, ropes, canoes and boats. We are also informed that fishermen from Ada, Bortiano James Town and Teshie were the most affected by this natural disaster,” he said.
“To exhibit our commitment to the sector, we quickly responded with seventy Three bundles of fishing net and s50 pools of fishing twines with a total value of over One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵100,000.00),”he added.
The Managing Director pledged the Bank’s commitment towards developing the fishing sector through the provision of credit and other facilities to enable it contribute significantly to the economy.
The sector Minister, Madam Sherry Ayittey thanked the Bank for the kind gesture and commended them for the quick response and urged other organizations to emulate ADB.
She indicated that with the necessary support the fishing and aquaculture sector has the potential to do more for the economy.
