President John Dramani Mahama has downplayed critics’ assessment of his performance over the past four years, saying the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is proud of the achievements it has chalked so far under his administration.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the state house to highlight the party’s Manifesto for 2016, President Mahama said that although the party has been confronted with a number of challenges it has been able to achieve significant success.
“Indeed I feel very inspired by the success we have achieved in the last four years. We can be proud of that record.We will sustain the transformation,”said the President.
[contextly_sidebar id=”invASFzi3jHIDuf48y2YldfoOIQeR0CT”]Highlighting some projects to support his claim, the President indicated that government’s policies and projects have been directed at putting people first.
“We have built a strong economy for jobs, expanded infrastructure for accelerated development and advanced transparency and accountable governance. We have been vindicated as we have seen huge payoffs in terms of access to education, access to healthcare and other social services. This has helped to improve the educational outcomes and favourable health indices for our people.”
He further revealed that, government has “undertaken and in some instances completed major institutional reforms and built strong and viable institutions”which has created more jobs for Ghanaians.
President Mahama pledged to continue programmes and policies and introduce new initiatives that are “consistent with key social democratic principles of equity” when given another opportunity to lead the nation.
He was optimistic his second term in office will move Ghana closer towards the era of what he termed as “prosperity and security”
More roads, houses to build
Depsite touting his achievements over the past four years, the President admitted that there were various projects that government had to embark on.
“We still have more roads to construct, we have more houses to build, we have additional health facilities to provide and we have more jobs to create. “
Manifesto
The President revealed that the yet-to-be launched manifesto, titled ‘Changing Lives, Transforming Ghana’, is structured in four thematic areas.
“It has been done in a very simple style and it has a brief introduction and we have it in four thematic areas and for every sector it introduces briefly, and it talks about our achievements and our commitments for the next four years is going to be.”
The manifesto will be officially launched on Saturday September 17, at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.
