Media practitioners will for the first time cast their votes in a special voting session to be held before the general elections on December 7.
The Electoral Commission has set December 1 as the date for the Special Voting session.
The arrangement, according to the Commission, is to enable all persons who will be playing an active roles on December 7 to also exercise their franchise.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Q98sPlsAu5ruMPiZOZfmdnoL0lsyEiFk”]The Deputy Head of Communications at the EC, Yussif Ayuba explained that the “special voting is reserved for the category of Personnel who will be working come election day. These persons include the officials of the Electoral Commission and the temporary staff that we recruit.”
“This time the media will also be given an opportunity to do special voting and the security agencies who will be manning the various polling agents come the Election Day,” he added.
He explained further some parameters of the special voting noting that some media personnel may be required to transfer their votes.
According to Mr. Ayuba, “because of the BVDs, if you want to vote in the area in which you are now and you don’t have your vote there, you have to transfer your vote so that we can facilitate it so that your name can be extracted and put on the BVD s that you can vote in the polling station where you are.”
He however indicated that “if you don’t have your vote where you want to vote, your name could still be put on the special voting lists but you have to go to the area were your vote is to be able to cast your vote on the 1st of December.”
