The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Kumasi Polytechnic, now upgraded into a Technical University, has launched an innovative platform intended to showcase ideas of student innovators to potential investors.
The innovators Hack, (i-Hack), according to the Program coordinator, Mr. Dennis Asante-Sackey, is “to promote collaborative innovation and creativity among students pursuing engineering, technical and applied sciences at the Kumasi Technical University.”
He explained that, “the i-Hack will serve as a platform for like-minded students to share information and resources which encourage innovation and team work in design process and product development.”
The i-Hack, according to the organizers, “will be organized in four parts, the Pre-competition, competition, exhibition and post competition, after which a Vice Chancellor’s award for innovation will be awarded to the 5 selected teams that win in each category.”
The SRC President, Eugene Prempeh, revealed that, Kumasi Hive, an organization collaborating with the SRC will provide adequate mentoring and training for partakers.
He thus called on all organizations in the field of renewable energy, water and sanitation, waste management and recycling, post harvest and smart climate technology, to render services and support to the realization of i-Hack.
The Dean of Students, Dr. Michael Assumang, who was enthused about the SRC’s initiative, advised all students to partake in the programme.
i-Hack comes at a time where graduate unemployment in the country is on the rise.
Earlier this year, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s chapter of Graduate Students Association of Ghana, launched the Graduate Entrepreneurship Competition and Business Accelerator Program (GEC- BAP), expected to similarly train and support graduate students who have innovative minds.
The program will see about 200 innovative and creative students, from the Kumasi Technical University undergo training and incubation with Kumasi Hive.
