President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday presented highlights of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2016 manifesto ahead of the official launch on Saturday in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The manifesto according to Mahama hinges on four thematic areas which includes putting people first, strong and resilient economy, responding to social infrastructure and improving transparent and accountable governance.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the State House, President Mahama said he will be aggressively implement the manifesto in its entirety if given a second term mandate on December 7, 2016.
E-textbooks On education which falls under putting people first, the president said he intends to provide basic schools with tablets to replace text books and also extend the progressively free Senior High School policy to boarding students.
“We are going to pilot the use of electronic textbooks at the junior and senior high level and if this pilot is successful then we will expand it across the board… We shall expand the progressive free SHS before the end of my term and also extend it to cover boarding students,” he added.
Touching on the economy, the president said his government will ensure that the cedi is stabilized and the inflation rate is decreased to a single digit in his second term.
With regards to infrastructure, he said his government would expand access to roads and other social amenities.
