Mariah Carey will be a guest star in the new series of Fox TV show Empire.
The 46-year-old R&B diva will appear in an episode in October.
She will play a superstar singer named Kitty, who collaborates with Jussie Smollett’s character, Jamal Lyon, on a new song.
Lyon has a creative block until Kitty helps him deal with some personal issues to make the song work. Rumours that the singer would appear on the show have been around for months.
She’s reportedly been friends with co-creator Lee Daniels for a long time, starring in his films Precious and The Butler.
Empire is known for casting high-profile guest stars like Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Chris Rock, Ludacris and others.
Dana Walden, chairman and CEO of the Fox Television Group, said: “Mariah loves the show.”
According to Dana Walden, Mariah filmed the episodes last week while taking a break from her Sweet Sweet Fantasy tour.
This announcement coincides with the singer’s new reality TV series called Mariah’s World which starts on the TV channel E! in December.
It’s been a busy year for mother-of-two Mariah.
She’s not only making guest appearances on TV shows and going on tour, she’s also planning her wedding to Australian billionaire James Packer.
