President John Dramani Mahama has verified his name on the voters’ register in the Bole/Bamboi constituency in the Northern Region.
Enthusiastic supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) thronged the polling station where President Mahama registered to witness their leader go through the verification process.
The ongoing voter exhibition exercise has been hit by low turnout across the country with various political parties virtually abandoning the event.
The 21-day exhibition exercise is scheduled to end on Sunday August 7, 2016 with less than half of the over 14 million voters on the electoral roll expected to verify their names ahead of the December 7 polls.
The exhibition is taking place in 29,000 polling stations across the country and will enable all voters to check their names in the register, and also help to delete ‘undesirable’ names on the electoral roll.
This year’s exhibition is lasting for 21 days instead of the usual 14 days.
Speaking after verifying his name, President Mahama entreated all eligible voters to also verify their names in the register to enable them exercise their franchise on December 7.
