Organizers of the ‘killer electricity tariffs” demonstration held in Tamale on Monday, have served notice of replicating the event in Bolgatanga and Wa if government fails to reduce electricity tariffs for northern consumers within two weeks.
A Deputy national communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Abaryifa Karbo, said this at the Zogbeli Park to climax the protest.
[contextly_sidebar id=”bN1D9VDKG0Xa1ab7az6Jrs3aphYn8t7J”]He said the coalition of opposition parties will not rest on their oars until government rapidly responds to them.
Anthony Abaryifa Karbo said small scale industries in the three regions of the north are collapsing because of the high electricity tariff tariffs.
He urged the electorates in the three regions of the north to reject the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the December 7 polls.
According to him, Ghana needs a Nana-Bawumia government to fix the nation’s ailing economy.
Some of the opposition parties’ leadership including the Convention Peoples Party’s (CPP), Northern Regional Secretary, Nuhu Jingli addressed the protesters.
Nuhu Jingli thanked the demonstrators for their orderliness throughout the event, and asked them to say no to the NDC at the 2016 polls.
He said the CPP has competent leadership to improve the living conditions of the citizens, and called for their maximum votes at the polls.
The NPP National Nasara Coordinator, Kamaldeen Abdullah, and the party’s National Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku, posited that the youth and Zongo residents have no future under President John Mahama.
They both claimed it will be politically suicidal to retain the governing NDC in power.
Kamaldeen Abdullah and Sammy Awuku chided President Mahama for what they described as the unprecedented youth unemployment recorded in the country.
They promised the youth that a Nana-Bawumia administration will find a lasting solution to the youth employment menace.
Police commended by Bugri Naabu
The outspoken NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, commended the police for protecting the demonstrators.
He said they deserved commendation for changing their position not to escort the demonstrators, because the organizers refused to postpone it in views of President Mahama’s campaign tour of the region.
Azorka Boys confusion
Daniel Bugri Naabu condemned the NDC’s Azorka Boys vigilante group for attempting to mar the peaceful conduct of the protest.
He warned that the NPP will face the NDC boot for boot, if they attempt to create political tension in the region ahead of the December 7 polls.
He asserted that, the NDC has lost touch with the Northern Region touted as one of their ‘World Banks’. He emphasized that, President Mahama does not deserve a second term because he has failed the nation.
The NPP Northern Regional Chairman said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia, have the solutions to the nation’s challenges.
Daniel Bugri Naabu thereby appealed to the electorate to massively vote for the NPP at the December 7 polls.
The protest, which started at the Tamale Veterans Village (LEGION), and ended at the Tamale Zogbeli Park, was generally peaceful.
The NPP Parliamentary candidates for Tamale Central, Tamale South, Tamale North and Sagnarigu constituencies as well as their executives participated in the protest.
The party’s regional executives and their counterparts from the other opposition parties fully represented.
