Presidential hopeful of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the Andani royals in Dagbon have nothing to fear in him and that they should consider him as one who will unify them.
“The Dagbon Regent, the Andani people and the people of Dagbon have nothing to fear about Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. They have nothing to fear.”
He noted with deep concern that his major opponents in the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for political expediency, succeeded in creating disaffection between him, the NPP and majority of the Andani royals in Dagbon.
This fallacy, according to Nana Akufo Addo, created the missing link between the NPP and the Regent of Dagbon after the demise of the late overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.
“I am aware of all kinds of things being said about me, and our party to try and create division between us. I am not a Dagomba and I don’t have any interest in fomenting any kind of problems among the people of Dagbon.”
“I know my political opponents are going around Dagbon to say that if I become President I will destool some 31 chiefs and all of that. I am not involved in the traditional matters of Dagbon, chieftaincy is not my business, my business is Ghana because I believe in Ghana.”
“Even the affairs of my own palace, the Akyem palace, I am not involved and how will I come here in Dagbon and get involved in Dagbon’s traditional affairs?” he asked.
He bemoaned that, “Unfortunately some kind of gap developed between myself, my party and the chiefs. And the time has come for us to close that gap for the interest of all of us and for the interest of the whole country.”
Nana Akufo Addo assured the chiefs and people of Dagbon saying, “In December, when I win the elections and become President, the Andani people each and everyone should know that indeed they have somebody who is going to be a father for everybody and doing what is right to make sure there is peace, unity and development in Dagbon.”
The NPP Presidential hopeful passionately raised this concern when he paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani at his palace in Yendi.
“I am not Andani or anAbudu. My only interest is that Dagbon should get united and play its role in the scheme of national affairs,” Nana Addo stressed.
He thus urged the Andani royals to ignore the vile propaganda against his personality and rekindle the bond that existed between him and the late Dagbon overlord.
He touted Dagbon as one of the famous kingdoms in Ghana, and called on the chiefs and people of Dagbon to rekindle the spirit of togetherness.
“Whatever I can do to assist that process of burying the past and looking into the future you should count on me. The Kampakuya-Naa knows that his late father, Yaa-Naa Andani Yakubu was my friend with whom I had a relationship and trust, and I want to establish the same relationship with him just as I had with his father.”
Nana Akufo Addo in a similar fashion at the Abudu Regent’s palace, advocated peaceful coexistence in Dagbon.
Boling-Lana’s message
The Abudu royals Regent, Boling-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu, commended Nana Akufo Addo’s acceptance of the outcome of the landmark election petition hearing at the Supreme Court.
He said Nana Addo’s action justified his believe in Ghana, and his passion to make Ghana a safe haven for all.
The Boling-Lana appealed to the NPP Presidential hopeful to attach importance to the agriculture sector if he wins the December 7 polls.
He also stressed the need for decorous on the campaign platforms to safeguard the nation’s tranquility. He said the Abudu Royals will remain law abiding citizens and will actively participate in nation building.
Some NPP bigwigs from Dagbon who accompanied Nana Akufo Addo to Yendi included the Yendi Legislator, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani, a former Northern Regional Minister, Prince Imoro Andani, Yendi constituency Chairman, Alhaji Inusah Dagomba Boy, the NPP’s national Nasara Coordinator, Kamaldeen Abdullah, Nana Addo’s campaign Aide, Iddrisu Musah Superior and a former NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Tia alias Harunbis.
The rest are the Northern Regional NPP Patrons Chairman, Alhaji Musah Mima, an Aide to the NPP running mate, Alhaji Sibdow Sei, the NPP Northern Regional Organizer, Alhaji Abdullah Hindu, the regional Secretary Sule Salifu, regional second vice Chairman, Alhaji Sunday, and a leading member of the NPP in the Northern Region, Alhaji Rufai Yahaya Iddi.
