The 4-day old baby girl who was reported missing from the maternity ward of the Bimbilla Government Hospital in the Northern Region has been found.
A female suspect has subsequently been arrested by the police to assist in investigations.
The woman who allegedly kidnapped the baby from the maternity ward told police she had been laboring long for a baby but could not get one.
An elderly woman in the ward suspected to be the grandmother of the baby, reportedly gave the baby to the woman.
Six persons including the husband, the mother of the baby, two nurses and the security man were detained yesterday [Friday] to assist with investigations.
According to the District Police Commander for the Nanumba North district, DSP Benjamin Annuah, “At 1:45 AM this morning, I had a call from one my credible informants and I came to the charge office and lo and behold, the lady also came and gave the baby to the police.”
The police however refused to disclose the identity of the woman although she is believed to be a native of Bimbilla.
Meanwhile, the two nurses and the security man who were on duty when the incident occurred, have been granted bail and are to reappear on Monday.
