Some staff and faculty members of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), say the allegations against the current rector, Professor Franklyn A. Manu, is an attempt to divert attention from serious matters concerning the school including a vote by the staff and faculty to have the governing council immediately dissolved.
Earlier this week, The Enquirer newspaper reported that “the Rector of GIMPA Prof. Franklyn A. Manu has been caught in a scandalous allegation of soliciting sex from young women seeking to be employed by the school’’ including “the governing council investigating the engagement of a Higher National Diploma (HND) holder as Director of Administration”.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Q8j9udXH7s4TKmdSZX7UNfar0Lry1c0l”]But according to a staff at GIMPA who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity, the allegations against the Rector was brought before the council some two years ago, and was dismissed since it could not be substantiated.
According to the source, the current Rector has just six weeks to retire, and it was therefore unnecessary for an issue that has been dealt with years ago to be resurrected.
He described the whole story as a plot to stall time and make the governing council appear credible.
“This comes at a time when the council is under pressure dealing with issues of corruption and mismanagement and therefore they are trying to divert attention to other matters. The Rector’s issue came up two to three years ago and he was never summoned. They looked into it and it was dismissed, saying it was nothing to spend time on. With six weeks for the Rector to leave his job it’s not logical for this to be an issue.”
He however confirmed the allegations of womanizing and added that it was never proven.
“He has a history of womanizing, even before he was appointed. But don’t tell me with six weeks to retire; this should undo all his hard work. Has any woman come out to make a complaint against him? No. We know the council is just looking for something to hold on to. This is a dead story that does not hold water. It must be treated with the contempt it deserves so we can concentrate on other important things like getting them dissolved.”
Citi News’ checks revealed that the Rector, Prof. Manu, is currently out of the country.
He is said to have flown out on Sunday, July 17 at 11: 00pm, before the newspaper publication.
