Personnel of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Navy, have begun a manhunt for persons suspected to have kept some children illegally at Kpando in the Volta Region
Five children were rescued after a raid by the anti- human trafficking unit of the police service and Challenging Heights, an NGO promoting child’s right and freedom.

“When we got to the village, the slave masters, all of them, coincidentally were not around. At least that is what we were told so we couldn’t arrest the suspects. We went with the Kpando Navy and the Kpando Police who have the contacts of the suspects so they are going to take that up.”
She revealed that the children and their mothers would undergo psychological evaluation before they are reintegrated back into society.
Pomah Arthur, however added that, the mothers would have to find jobs and prove that they can earn a living for the upkeep of the children before they are returned to them.
“Whilst they are undergoing rehabilitation, the mothers will go through counselling before they are reintegrated. Before that, we’ll make sure that you have a good job before the children are sent back to them.”
The children will be under observation for six to nine months before they’ll be returned to their mothers.
42 children rescued
In February, the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service rescued 42 children who were being trafficked to Nigeria.
Two of the alleged child traffickers from Nigeria, were put before court and were remanded in Tamale.
