Vegetable Farmers in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region hit the streets Tuesday morning to demonstrate against the high cost vegetable production resulting from increasing electricity tariffs.
These vegetable farmers rely mainly on electricity to power their irrigation pumps.
According to the farmers, government has failed to redeem a promise made in 2012 to give farmers who use electricity a special tariff.
This protest followed an earlier one organized by their cohorts in Keta on same issue.
The vegetable farmers in the Keta Municipality described development projects undertaken by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as fruitless, since they do not economically benefit from them.
Clad in red attire holding placards with inscriptions that express their ‘predicaments’the farmers comb the principal streets amidst drumming and singing.
