One hostage was killed as a result of an attack in a church in France’s northern Normandy region on Tuesday, French media reported.
Two men who took several people hostage in a church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray have been “neutralized,” a police source said earlier.
One source said between four and six people were being held by the assailants in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray. The second source said five people had been taken hostage.
A police source said one hostage had been stabbed to death.
Live TV images showed police had blocked off the roads around the church and paramedics were seen pulling stretchers out of ambulances.
The hostages included a priest, two nuns and two worshippers according to BFM TV.
France Info reported that police had shot the two assailants dead. Frederic Veille, a northwest correspondent for the broadcaster RTL France, reported from the scene on Twitter that the siege had ended with police shooting the pair.
