Government as part of its agenda to modernize agriculture has procured about 600 farm machinery for distribution to deserving farmers and smallholder farmer groups.
These include tractors, combine harvesters and their accessories imported from Brazil.
According to the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, 149 of the tractors and combine harvesters have already arrived at the Tema Port.

He thus encouraged the country’s teeming unemployed youth to take advantage of the farm machinery and engage in commercial agriculture.
Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna reiterated government’s determination to expand the agric sector.
On the fertilizer subsidy distribution programme, the Food and Agric Minister said the mode of distribution has been computerized.
By this means, interested farmers would have to apply for the fertilizer through agric extension officers in their localities, he explained.
According to Alhaji Limuna, the agric extension officers have been supplied mobile phones to facilitate their interaction with the beneficiaries.
