“Under a Nana Akufo Addo government, we can do a lot to better the lot of our people in Ghana. Our youth don’t have jobs , they finished school and they are there, they are at home. They cannot find jobs, the economy is not growing, we need to change, we need to grow the economy, we need to solve our problems.”
Ghana sitting on a time bomb
The Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) has also expressed concerns about the unemployment situation in the country .
Head of the Economic Division at the Institute, Dr. Charles Ackah, in March 2015 stated that Ghana is sitting on a time bomb due to the worsening graduate unemployment situation in the country.
He argued that the current economic situation had drastically reduced both the government and the private sector’s capacity to employ people.
I’ll create millions of jobs in my 2nd term – Mahama
Dr. Bawumia’s comments come days after President Mahama, at the inauguration ceremony of the Komenda Sugar Factory in the Central Region on Monday, reiterated his pledge to create more jobs for the teeming number of unemployed Ghanaians should he be given a second term to govern the country.
“Millions of jobs will be created for our young people and the private sector is invited to increase their investment appetite for these projects and academia is also to intensify research for the attainment of these plans,” the President said.
