Members of TEIN at the University of Health and Allied Sciences(UHAS) , Hohoe Campus, have expressed their displeasure with what they describe as derogatory comments by the Member of Parliament for Assin Central against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei.
Mr Agyapong, at an NPP rally in the Asokwa Constituency of the Ashanti Region ,alleged that EC boss, Charlotte Osei, exchanged sex for her position.
The MP has since come under attack over the comments, with many including the Ghana Bar Association asking him to apologize to the EC Chair.
Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, the TEIN President of UHAS, at the Hohoe Campus, Gifty Dorvlo, said the student body is extremely disappointed in the MP for Assin Central
“The conduct of the NPP legislator is unacceptable, unfortunate and absolutely outside our cultural norms and beliefs.
The statement from the group is below
We wish to say that the comments by the NPP MP is an insult to the hardworking women of our country who have contributed immensely to the development of our great country.
Our country is well respected across the continent of Africa for critical role our women have played and continue to play in our effort at building a great country.
Even dating back to pre-colonial era , the likes of the Great Yaa Asantewaa of the great Ashanti Kingdom, among others contributed to the unity and the stability of the then Kingdom
GIfty Dorvlo added: “By the pronouncements of the MP , all these women only succeeded not because they were determined to make a difference, but because they did what he’s alleging Mrs Charlotte Osei did to reach this height.
As young ladies, such pronouncements serve as disservice to hard work and determination to achieve for ones country
We demand immediate apology from the NPP as a party , as well as the MP , since the reckless comments were made on a political platform”.
