Radio Personality, Abeiku Aggrey Santana, has been appointed as one of Ghana’s Tourism Ambassadors. He joins earlier appointees’, actors John Dumelo and Abraham Attah.
This was revealed at the media launch of the upcoming 3rd Ghana Carnival in Accra scheduled for 1st to 3rd July, 2016.
Speaking at the launch, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said this initiative is to promote domestic tourism as well as portray the rich African culture in Ghana.
‘”The institution of the concept of carnivals in Ghana is a testament to my ministry’s untiring efforts at finding innovative ways of spicing up the tourism landscape and promoting especially domestic tourism. The objective of instituting the carnival amongst others is to promote domestic tourism through culture and the creative arts.”
She added that the carnival “is also to afford creative arts practitioners the platform to showcase their potential in respect of costume designing, dance choreography, music composition, art, design among other beautiful talents.”
The Minister further urged industries and businesses to use the opportunity of the carnival to establish business contacts that will boost the country’s foreign returns as well as place Ghana’s economic gains on a higher level.
“Ultimately, it is to be used as a tool for socio-economic development by encouraging the establishment of business linkages, wealth creation and promotion of business ideas among the huge numbers of people who congregate around it.”
Newly appointed Tourism Ambassador, Abeiku Aggrey Santana, expressed his excitement and promised to contribute in making Ghana the tourism destination in West Africa, admonishing Ghanaians to invest in promoting tourism in Ghana.
“I am excited to be called upon to serve my country and I promise to do my best. I am also pleading with fellow Ghanaians to create the awareness to open more doors for our tourism industry.”
This year’s carnival dubbed “my Culture Rocks”, is expected to feature music and dance groups, student groups, associations, corporate institutions, keep fit clubs and individuals with representations from other countries such as Nigeria, Togo, Seychelles, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The 3-day event will commence on the 1st of July 2016, with a carnival float from the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, through some principal streets of Accra to the Independence Square for the exhibition and sale of made-in-Ghana goods, food bazaar, talent hunts, pick and acts and other fun games.
The 2nd and 3rd days will feature a mammoth beach jam at the Labadi Pleasure Beach in the afternoon.
