Some squatters are fighting against a possible eviction from a fast rising affluent neighbourhood in Accra, Adjirigano Sahara Gold.
Residents in the neighbourhood say they are prone to health hazards due to pollution by the squatters. They are thus appealing to the Adentan Municipal Assembly to evict the squatters as a matter of urgency.
Some residents of the plush community say the activities of the over one thousand slum dwellers, who have occupied a stretch along the motorway close to their homes, are putting their lives in danger.
A resident lamented that, when you approach the area, the strong stench from a heap of refuse welcomes you. Apparently this is where the squatters use as their dump site. The worse is the strong stench that comes out of a lavatory the squatters have put up.”
But the squatters, who have been connected to electricity and have water flowing through their taps, are not ready to vacate the area.
