The Ashanti Regional Police Command over the weekend arrested 49-year old Kojo Afrifa, whose electrical shop was stocked with offensive weapons.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, said they visited the shop located opposite the Mampong Anglican Church upon a tip off May 6.
He said the shop owner, Kojo Afrifa, led the police to search the shop following which seventy-seven (77) pieces of 800 type self-defensive flashlights with shockers, fifty (50) pieces of American style nato super-paralisant pepper spray, twenty-nine (29) pieces of lachrymater ejector GA577-2005 pepper spray, and twenty (20) pieces of 2012 night flashlight with shocker were retrieved.
According to the police, the trader did not possess the license to deal in those items, and has thus breached the law.
ACP Ampofo Duku while addressing the media, said the suspect will be sent to Accra for further investigations after which he will be sent to court.
“We are sending him together with the exhibits to Accra for further investigation, analysis and report to the general public.”
He also urged the public to feed the police with any information of people who use or deal in such weapons.
“If anybody knows anyone who also deals in such items, we’ll be more than happy to get such information, and we’ll follow up with the necessary action.”
