A polling agent of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in the Effutu Constituency of the Central Region, Patrick Ebo Appiah, has allegedly been battered by thugs suspected to be members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by it’s Constituency Chairman, Kojo Halm.
The heavily built men who allegedly attacked the agent at the Don Bosco Catholic Girl’s Primary School Registration Centre on Tuesday, also took away a booklet containing the details of PPP members to the NPP constituency office in Winneba.
[contextly_sidebar id=”VrLmaehAjlOzwma9YvJBeXJtQkPqKgcq”]The booklet, which had some of its parts torn out after the incident, was subsequently retrieved from the NPP Chairman at his party office by the PPP’s Effutu Parliamentary Candidate, Nana Ofori.
Addressing the media on his hospital bed, the victim, Patrick Ebo Appiah, said he was beaten mercilessly by the armed men without any provocation.
Confirming the story to Citi News, the Winneba District Police Commander, Superintendent, Godfred Adjirako, said the victim was issued a medical form for treatment after he reported the case to them.
He said his outfit is investigating the assault case, and that no one has been arrested yet.
The Parliamentary Candidate of PPP for the Effutu Constituency in an interview with Citi News said he has charged his agents to arm themselves in order to fight anyone who attacks them at the registration centers.
All attempts by Citi News to reach Kojo Halm, the NPP Effutu Constituency Chairman for his side of the story proved futile.
In a quick rebuttal, the NPP Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency Alex Afenyo Markin, said the allegations were false and should treated with contempt.
