Over 1,000 people have been rendered homeless following a rainstorm that hit some 15 communities in the Chereponi District of the Northern Region on Friday.
Many school blocks, clinics, homes and other structures in communities like Wenchiki, Mayamam, Nyangbandi, Lala, Ando have all been destroyed.
The District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Oragnsiation (NADMO), Amadu Sulemana, confirmed the situation to Citi News.
[contextly_sidebar id=”kVjT8iRzh57lJZJfGM98kdCJGJ0ufKEO”]According to him, five casualties have been recorded with the victims receiving treatment at the hospital.
They include two women with broken legs and three children who sustained various degrees of head injury.
He also stated that the displaced people are now staying with their relatives although some have also taken refuge in a school, the Wenchiki LA primary.
Mr. Sulemana noted that this was an emergency situation adding that a report had been sent to the regional capital for relief.
