Parliamentary nominees of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC), who are not actively monitoring the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise by the Electoral Commission, are likely to face the wrath of the party leadership.
A brief statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said “it has come to the attention of the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that some Parliamentary Candidates are not participating actively in the on-going Limited Registration Exercise.”
[contextly_sidebar id=”3owPSvPdxC5kJ8UEXZDVHgSYGxhbAOhp”]According to the General Secretary “FEC is stating for the avoidance of doubt that all Parliamentary Candidates who are not supporting and participating actively in the Exercise shall have questions to answer.”
The Electoral Commission last Thursday began registering new voters onto its database ahead of the November 7 polls.
The exercise has since its commencement recorded some violent activities in some areas, with the two major parties, the NDC and the NPP, accusing each other of manipulating the process.
NDC, EC intimidating us -NPP
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday, accused the NDC and the Electoral Commission of intimidating their agents in the various registration centres especially in the Ashanti and Eastern regions.
Addressing a news conference in Accra today [Tuesday], Acting General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, said that the party will resist any form of intimidation in the ongoing exercise.
“A very unfortunate development in the ongoing registration exercise is the unleashing of thugs and macho men to cause violence and intimidate potential registrants in some of our strong holds. This appears to be a carefully tailored strategy by the NDC to reduce the number of voters in our strongholds and these obvious criminal acts are being perpetrated in some cases with the involvement of government officials including regional ministers and DCEs.”
