The Paramount Chief of Kumbungu traditional area in the Northern Region, Naa Alhaji Abu Iddrisu, has cautioned politicians against using intemperate language ahead of the November 7 polls.
According to Naa Alhaji Abu Iddrisu, the upcoming elections should not be considered as a battle field, hence the need for politicians to be civil in their pronouncements.
He emphasized that political tolerance is the critical for nation building and urged politicians to desist from distasteful comments.
Kumbungu Naa Alhaji Abu was interacting with the media at his palace in Kumbungu where he thanked government for appointing a native of the area, Dr. Issahaku Nashiru as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
He on behalf of the chiefs and people of Dagbon praised President John Dramani Mahama for Dr. Issahaku Nashiru’s elevation.
“We thank almighty Allah for making that possible and we also thank the President of the Republic of Ghana for making that happen.”
Kumbungu Naa Alhaji Iddrisu Abu described Dr. Nashiru Issahaku as a shining example who deserves praise.
“Of all the people from this part of the country, it has never happened and I am particularly happy because it is under my reign it has happened. Indeed, this land will never forget him because he is the first from this part of the country to make that history.”
He disclosed his intention to organize a grand durbar in Kumbungu in appreciation of the honour and to outdoor Dr. Issahaku Nashiru to his kinsmen.
He admitted that Dr. Issahaku Nashiru’s academic laurels earned him the prestigious position and thereby charged parents to invest in their children’s education to enable them grab more of such opportunities.
He promised to sanction parents who will renege on their responsibility to send their children especially the girl child to school.
He said women will be better placed in society if well educated to compete with their male counterparts.
“The future of this traditional area, the future of this district, the future the Northern Region and the future of this nation lies squarely on education. We should think of education as enabling the younger ones to move a step ahead of their parents. Make sure your son becomes a graduate, gets Master’s and a Doctorate because there is no limit to education.”
Kumbungu road network/Infrastructure
He said the area was bedeviled with infrastructure deficit which required government’s immediate attention.
Kumbungu Naa Alhaji Abu Iddrisu implored government to complete the main Tamale-Kumbungu and Township roads.
He served notice that his palace will detest shoddy work on government projects intended to uplift the area’s image.
Kumbungu Naa Alhaji Abu Iddrisu called for the construction of assembly complex for the Kumbungu district which was carved out of the former Tolon/Kumbungu district.
Dagbon Peace
Kumbungu Naa Alhaji Abu Iddrisu reiterated the need for reconciliation and unity in Dagbon.
He posited that Dagombas could no longer be divided on Abudu and Andani lines, and called for concerted efforts to rejuvenate the once vibrant Dagbon State credited for its cultural multiplicity.
