The Rotary Club of Accra-Ridge in partnership with the Rotary Club of San Jose Jacksonville, FL USA, has refurbished and stocked a library for the AME Zion Junior High School, Akyem Old Tafo in the Eastern Region.
According to the Secretary and Acting Director, Service Project, of the Club, Rotarian Sampson Djan Amoako, the support was a follow-up to earlier projects already undertaken by his club.
The service club, he said, provided toilet facilities to the school under a Rotary International/USAID-funded Water & Sanitation project, extending electricity to the school and setting up a computer lab with functional computers to aid the teaching and learning of ICT.
He indicated that the project was supported with funds from the Rotary Club of San Jose Jacksonville, FL USA and with additional funding support from the Rotary District 6970 also in the USA.
The Club took up a disused facility that was then renovated and furnished with chairs, tables and books valued at about GH¢ 6,000.00.
Mr. Amoako noted that the project was made possible under an agreement between the two clubs to provide a school with a fully stocked library annually.
“A reading clinic was also inaugurated at the handing over to assist the students with reading skills”.
At the handover ceremony, President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Ridge President Michael Nyarko-Ampem said, “It is amazing what we can accomplish when hearts and minds work together.
“…..See how leaders from different countries, with diverse cultures and occupations are taking action to improve education, empower the next generation and improving our communities. That’s the difference Rotary makes,” he asserted.
He stated that Rotary brings together a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.
He disclosed that the Club connects 1.2 million members of more than 34,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas.
Their work, he noted, impacts lives at both the local and international levels, from helping families in need in their own communities to working towards a polio-free world.
