The University for Development Studies (UDS) has conferred Honorary Doctorate Degree on former Namibia President, H.E Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba.
This was in appreciation of Ex-President Pohamba’s three day lecture as Guest speaker of the 4TH edition of the Africa leadership lectures initiated by the University for Development Studies (UDS).
His lecture highlighted inspirational and extra ordinary Africa leadership, African integration and his vision on African integration.
H.E Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba at the climax outlined good governance, visionary leadership, building strong institutions, infrastructure development and combating corruption as the catalyst for African integration.
He reminded African leaders of their responsibility to effectively exploit available raw materials to transform the continent.
He said Africans must take charge of the management of abandoned natural resources.
H.E Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba encouraged African leaders to promote Public Private Partnership as the engine of growth.
He called for deeper collaboration to combat political instability in the continent.
The former Namibia President reiterated the need to make quality education accessible.
He encouraged the UDS graduates to actively contribute to the attainment of the African integration agenda.
Congregation
A special congregation which coincided with the climax of the 4TH edition of the Africa leadership lectures produced 122 graduands.
Master of Arts, MPHIL and MSC degrees were conferred on the graduands from the various faculties including Community Health and Development, NGO Management and Rural Development, Education, Allied Health Sciences, Institute for Inter-Disciplinary Research and Consultancy Services, Agriculture, Agribusiness and Communication Sciences, Planning and Land Management, Development Management, Integrated Development Studies and Development Communication.
The UDS Vice Chancellor, Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye encouraged the graduands to be development oriented.
He said plans were advanced to introduce new programmes for the 2016/17 academic season.
He thanked government and the donor community for their continuous support.
Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye appealed to government to asphalt the road network in all the campuses.
