Pro-opposition pressure group, ‘The Truth Forum’, has questioned the rationale behind President Mahama’s ‘Accounting to the people tour’, saying the President has failed to render financial accounts for the projects he has been highlighting in the various regions.
Members of the Truth Forum also accused President Mahama of failing to address the most pressing economic challenges facing the country.
Speaking at a press briefing today [Thursday], the group’s Spokesperson and Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Anthony Karbo, said the President should stop his rhetoric of delivering transformation when Ghanaians are suffering under his government.

Have they been used in our collective interest? Records show that Ghana’s debt at the end of 2015 stood at some GHc111 billion; judging from the fact that the NDC inherited a debt stock of GHc 9.5billion in 2009, this means a colossal of GHc101.5 billion has been added to our debt stock in the last seven years.
“The question therefore remains to be answered; why is the President accounting for project which in total cost is less than GHc30 billion when he has taken so much in borrowing. Where is the remaining GHc70 billion? Don’t also forget that the projects undertaken with the GHc30 billion were mostly overpriced and ridiculously sole-sourced which has become a major vehicle for corruption under this government,” he added.
‘Accounting to the People’ tour
President Mahama is currently visiting the regions in an initiative dubbed “Accounting to the People” tour.
The tour is to afford the president the opportunity to highlight to the people some of the projects executed by the NDC government.
But the NPP and other political parties have accused the President Mahama of abusing incumbency ahead of the elections in November.
