“According to the officers at the registration center, there was a dispute as to whether somebody who had come there to register was eligible or not. In the course of the exchanges, six persons on three motorbikes came to the scene, caused destruction and smashed a laptop belonging to the EC and also took away a challenge booklet. Before the security could arrive, they had gone,” he narrated.
“There was a guy who was identified to us as the one who called in the men to cause the commotion. The man is in our custody and is assisting in investigations.”
According to Yusif Tanko, the police in the region have put measures in place to ensure that similar incidents to not occur in future.
“The Regional Command has issued out instructions to men on patrol and men who are actually manning the registration centres to do everything possible to ensure that they stop anyone who comes there to take electoral materials or machines.”
