Some 1,351 ex-military men who belong to the 1977, 1978, 1979 to 1983 year intake groups of the Ghana Armed Forces, have sued the security agency over what they say is their unlawful removal from the service in November 2010.
Those joined to the suit are the Chief of Defence Staff and the Attorney General.
According to the former military men, their recruitment was subject to terms and conditions laid down in the regulations of the Ghana Armed Forces, but their removal did not recognize that process.
The ex-military men are thus seeking a declaration that their “removal from the service without recourse to the Armed Forces regulation and due process is unlawful.”
They are also seeking “an order that each of the affected ex-soldiers be compensated with an amount of GHc20, 000 as damages for the unlawful release.”
225 retired military men sue over under-payment
In a related development, 225 retired military men have sued the Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS) for under-payment of their gratuities, contrary to what the government approved.
They are are also seeking a declaration that the deductions made were unlawful and further prayed the court to compel the CDS to pay interests on the amounts deducted from their entitlements.
