The queen mother of the Agogo Traditional area in the Ashanti Region, Obaahemaa Nana Serwaa Kusi, on Tuesday led residents of the town to demonstrate against the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area.
She was accompanied by some elders of the Agogo Traditional Council, the Member of Parliament for the area, Kojo Baah Agyeman and other dignitaries.
The protest is aimed at putting pressure on government to evict the Fulani herdsmen who they accuse of destroying their crops and killing their relatives.
The residents say the herdsmen were ordered to vacate the community with their cattle but have refused to heed to the directive, hence their decision to protest.
The demonstrators who started the protest at about 8:30am at the main lorry station in Agogo, are expected to go through some principal streets in the town and later submit a petition to the District Chief Executive for Asante Akyem North District for onward submission to the presidency.
Some of the placards the protesters held had inscriptions: “Mahama Kada,” “We can’t farm now,” “Fulani herdsmen and cattle must leave!”Agogo is part of Ghana,” “Is cow precious than life?”
This is the second protest march by the residents against the Fulanis.
