Teachers in the Amenfi East District of the Western Region, have pulled out from this year’s Independence Day celebration.
Their decision follows a comment made by the District Director of Education for Amenfi East, Alexis Matipah, on an Accra-based radio station describing them as “incompetent” and blockheaded.
The teachers took the decision when all attempts to get the director to apologize proved futile.
Speaking to Citi News, Convener for the teachers, Isaac Owusu Konadu, said they cannot work with the District Director anymore.
“This man doesn’t regard teachers; he will insult and humiliate you. When he was called on Adom FM in Accra, he was asked why he set his own questions instead of asking the teachers to do that. He told the station that all the teachers in the district are block-headed and they are incompetent,” he said.
Mr. Konadu said they subsequently told the Deputy Minister of Education, Alex Kyeremeh, that not until they get an apology from the Director, they were not taking part in the upcoming Independence Day celebration.
“What will happen is that, on Sunday no teacher will be on the field, we will attend our various churches. We can’t work with the man again; he has disgraced us to the highest level,” he added.
