The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Mahama-led administration of deliberately putting the life of their presidential candidate, Nana Addo and his running mate, Dr. Mahamdu Bawumia in danger.
The claim follows the arrest of the three South Africans, ex-Police Officers who were in the country to train private security personnel for the party’s top leaders.
[contextly_sidebar id=”KZANoEnoj7KxrZRss99AE2JdWtisrV3P”]The three, Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (rtd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and unlawful training.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Thursday, acting chairman of the party Freddie Blay said the party has “every reason to believe that the lives of our[NPP] presidential candidate and his running mate are deliberately being exposed to high risk by the Mahama government. ”
He further stated that the party has obtained credible information that suggests that the President and some persons in government such as NDC’s Deputy General Secretary, Kwaku Anyidoho are plotting to harm their flagbearer.
“We go as far as to say that the President and his government are deliberately allowing the life of his main competitor for the 2016 presidential race to be endangered. We know of the active role that key political players in NDC such as the party’s deputy general secretary Kwaku Anyidoho at the party headquarters and others from the flagstaff house are playing to falsely accuse Nana Akufo-Addo of importing mercenaries and using that as a pretext to criminalize and neutralize this legitimate effort of merely protecting our presidential candidate, his running mate and their spouses.”
“At this juncture it is important we disclose to the general public that the NPP has been receiving intelligence report over a period of time that some people allegedly sympathetic to the government were planning to harm our presidential candidate Akufo Addo and his running mate Dr. Bawumia and blame it falsely on an internal NPP attack,” he said.
In a related development the party has defiantly stated that it will resist any form of intimidation from the government ahead of the November polls.
The NPP is alleging the government masterminded the arrest of their three South African security consultants and the Head of the Security detail of their Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo and his running mate Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
The Head of Nana Addo’s security team Captain (rtd) Edmund Koda and the owner of the EL-Capitano Hotel Captain (rtd) Acquah were arrested and have been charged.
But Freddie Blay, described the charges leveled against the five men as unreasonable.
