Ghanaian triple jumper Nadia Eke has set a new national record at an event in New York on Friday.
She jumped a distance of 13.49m to break the old record of 13.48m held by France-based Mathile Boateng.
The feat has thus qualified Eke to the African Seniors Championships which will be held in South Africa in June.
Eke is now the national record holder in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump events.
Her record is the 12th national record to be broken by athletes in several events across track and field. In February, Emmanuel Dasor broke the national 400m indoor record with a time of 46.21 seconds.
The old one was held by Solomon Amegatcher who had a time of 46.60 and was set in 1993.
Dasor also set a new national record in the men’s indoor 200m with a time of 20.89 seconds.
Dasor set these records at the Universities Conference Championships in Alabama.
