President John Mahama has described the late Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey as a man who made a mark with his contribution to the development of the nation’s democracy.
According to the President, he used his sense of calmness to resolve tensions that could have destabilized the country.
The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman passed on last Sunday after a protracted illness.
President Mahama who speaking after he visited Jakes family house to sign the book of condolence said he was there to express “the regret of the government and the people of Ghana for the passing of Jake Obetsebi Lamptey.”
“We all know the role he played in our democratic process from 1992 to date. He served as the chairman of the NPP and even in the most turbulent times when adversarial competitiveness was at its height, people like Jake maintained the calm and working together, we’ve always been able to calm the waters and that is part of what has created Ghana as a model of democracy in Africa.
“And so his passing is only fitting that as president of the Republic of Ghana I come to mourn with the family and extend the support of the government in this difficult time to help the family with any arrangement,” he added.
