Form one and two students of the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASS) at Koforidua in the Eastern Region have been asked to go for home for at least three weeks, after the school’s girls dormitory was razed by fire on Thursday evening.
Authorities of the school say they will provide the affected girls with some basic needs today [Friday] before they leave the school to their various houses on Saturday.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Rosetta Addison Sackey, together with the District Assembly and the school authorities took the decision after an emergency meeting on Friday.
According to an eyewitness, the students were not able to salvage their belongings from the fire because they were having their ‘prep’.
The Ghana National Fire Service has commenced investigations into the incident, after going through a tough session to douse the blaze.
Some of the affected students passed the night in their classrooms while others are putting up with their colleague day students who reside close to the school.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
