Some chiefs and elders within the Kpone Traditional area of the Greater Accra Region have lauded the transfer of the Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Harry Attipoe.
Mr. Harry Attipoe was in a letter dated 11th March, 2016, transferred to the Volta Region.
The transfer letter which was signed by the Acting Chief Director of the Chieftaincy Ministry, Constant Gladzah, on behalf of the sector Minister, said Mr Attipoe’s transfer takes effect from 1st April 2016.
He is to take over from one Daniel A. Azah in the Volta Region.
News of Mr Attipoe’s transfer has been met with joy by some elders and kingmakers within the Kpone Traditional area.
According to them, the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs Registrar who has been in the region for over a decade is largely to be blame for the unending chieftaincy problems within the region.
In an interview with the media, kingmakers of Appolonia and some elders of Kpone, lambasted the outgoing registrar for his alleged involvement in chieftaincy and land matters within the area, thereby creating confusion and division among them.
One of the Principal elders and kingmakers of the Appolonia stool, Nii Iddrissu Tettey Mansro, was full of praise for the Chieftaincy Minister for transferring Mr Attipoe, since according to them; he has caused the people of Kpone Traditional Area more harm than good.
“I thank the honourable Minister for Chieftaincy affairs for transferring Mr Harry Attipoe from the Greater Accra Region because ever since he was transferred to the Greater Accra Region as registrar, he has created more harm than good to us”.
Nii Mansro alleged that “Mr Harry Attipoe, who also doubles as the registrar for Kpone Traditional Area, has been involved in giving lands to developers whereas he (Attipoe) is not an indigene. We have evidence of land receipts with us where Mr Harry Attipoe has signed with regards to the sale of Kpone lands whereas he has no right to do so”
Nii Mansro said the decision to transfer Mr Attipoe is a very good one worth commending; adding that Mr Attipoe’s alleged involvement in series of land matters has created tensions within the Greater Accra region.
Citing the Appolonia chieftaincy dispute as an example, Nii Mansro said “Attipoe despite a case pending in court against the illegal enstoolment of one Nii Amobi, went ahead to ensure he was illegally gazetted”.
Last year, some youth of Kpone Traditional Area demonstrated and called for the removal of Mr. Harry Attipoe as registrar from the Traditional Council.
The youth among other things accused him of corruption and indiscriminate sale of Kpone stool lands.
Their action necessitated the closure of the Kpone Traditional Council for some time, and the removal of Mr. Attipoe as the Kpone Traditional Council Registrar in order to calm tensions in the area.
The youth have also received the news of his transfer with ecstasy and expressed the hope that it would be the beginning of greater things to happen to the people of the Greater Accra region.
“Attipoe has really created serious confusion and messed up our lands so now that he has been transferred, we thank God and we pray that the new registrar coming will come and clean the mess and put things in order”
Attipoe must account for illegal land sales
An elder of Kpone, Nii Nuetey Abotsi, said steps would be taken to ensure that Mr. Attipoe is hauled before the elders to account for the lands that he has sold.
“We will summon him to come and account to the people of Kpone for the lands that he has sold because he has no right selling our lands”.
He however warned Mr. Attipoe to desist from repeating his alleged nefarious activities in the Volta Region to ensure peace and tranquillity in that region.
